The legend – or search – has gained new popularity from “Finding Bigfoot” on Animal Planet.
“It won’t take long, a few years tops,” Portland native and bigfoot hunter Cliff Barackman told a Springfield High School club. “These things are real, and soon everyone is going to know about it.”
He is used to dealing with skeptics, but during a recent visit to Springfield High School, barackman was preaching to the choir at the Sasquatch Brotherhood, a school club.
“It’s like religion,” said Austin Helfrich of the Sasquatch Brotherhood. “You try to spread religion. Sasquatch, you try to spread it around, and have other people start to believe in it. And it just spreads like wildfire.”I’m NOT a fan of Finding Bigfoot. It’s a terrible terrible show that distorts reality, nature, science and just lacks any sense. This is NOT how Bigfoot will be found, by a noisy bunch of camera people and “investigators” hiking through the woods at night making ridiculous noises. Humans have looked for Bigfoot in a SERIOUS way for over 50 years now. The evidence is NO better, we are NO closer to finding out what people are experiencing when they say they saw Bigfoot. I can’t agree with Cliff that “soon everyone is going to know about it”. And I can’t agree that the evidence is AT ALL convincing so far. They’ve gone three seasons and found nothing of value to science. So, what I CAN agree on is that this is a belief that is more akin to religion. Indeed, it fits the bill. Believers have had experiences, revelations if you will. They don’t need evidence, they just KNOW.
But I’m not holding my breath. And, I’m not watching this show. It’s awful.
Bigfoots are real, and soon everyone will know it. Still waiting…
