Hostility towards Christians in Pakistan is rife. Mrs Bibi told in the interview how one of her guards had tried been suspended after trying to strangle her.

Mrs Bibi, a farm worker from rural Punjab, was first detained in 2009. She is accused of defiling the name of the prophet Mohammed during an argument with Muslim co-workers. She denies the charge, but was sentenced to death after the case went to trial. She is now waiting for her appeal to be heard at Lahore's High Court

Two of Mrs Bibi's supporters have been assassinated this year, including Salman Taseer, governor of Punjab, who was shot dead by one of his own bodyguards

Sudan, Somalia, Afghanistan, Pakistan and large swaths of Africa are the most violent and at the same time, the most religious places in the world. Consequently and of little surprise, these hell holes are far better known as the poorest nations on Earth. It is baffling that religious moderates in the Secular USA proudly condemn religious criticism with hardly a word of condemnation to the violence committed in the name of god. This perversion of priorities provides the context where religious violence can never be adequately opposed.

It's part of the privlege that religion has enjoyed for a long time, KD. I think part of Hitch's legacy is that he showed it's okay to loudly oppose religion.

This is to be expected from such a place. I am of the opinion that aid to nations which exist under religious law should be completely cut off. The regressive laws of religion which threaten those nations should not be allowed to persist.

then I take it you are pro gay marriage here in the US ? It is religious belief only that marriage should be between a man and woman that stands in the way of equal rights.
