CAIRO: An Islamic cleric residing in Europe said that women should not be close to bananas or cucumbers, in order to avoid any “sexual thoughts.”
The unnamed sheikh, who was featured in an article on el-Senousa news, was quoted saying that if women wish to eat these food items, a third party, preferably a male related to them such as their a father or husband, should cut the items into small pieces and serve.
He said that these fruits and vegetables “resemble the male penis” and hence could arouse women or “make them think of sex.”
He also added carrots and zucchini to the list of forbidden foods for women.
The sheikh was asked how to “control” women when they are out shopping for groceries and if holding these items at the market would be bad for them. The cleric answered saying this matter is between them and God.
Answering another question about what to do if women in the family like these foods, the sheikh advised the interviewer to take the food and cut it for them in a hidden place so they cannot see it.

For those people who have made an effort to actually read religions holy books, I am surprised all women, and/or those who hold the principal of equality as self evident, don't always reject religion as man made, life destroying gibberish.

Christianity's most venerated hero and misogynist Saul of Tarsus, later known as Saint Paul

1 Timothy 2:12, "But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet."

If this cleric is thinking about himself and his own inadequacy, he should ban women from touching acorns as well. Hey, what about salami?

There's equality, but it is permitted by men, it is not natural. It's self-evident that man is naturally inclined to "exercise authority" over women, children and lesser men. And if he let's a woman do it to him and "wear the pants" then he's just a little b**** who needs to grow a pair and act like a man.

What a crock! We've had that shyte pounded into every society for too many thousands of years.

"A truths initial commotion is directly proportional to how deeply the lie was believed. It wasnt the
world being round that agitated people but that the world wasn't flat. When a well-packaged web of lies has been sold gradually to the masses over generations, the truth will seem utterly preposterous and its speaker a raving lunatic." -- Dresden James

We don't believe the lies any longer.

************************************

This cleric seems a tad bit obsessed with his own member. My guess is that his accusation of women thinking about sex simply by viewing bananas and cucumbers is little more than wishful thinking. I wonder if that's what got him off when he was younger?

A) this guy is really turned on by veggies
B) this guy is embarrassed by his obviously inadequate size
C) this guy is secretly turned on by the thought of sex with men
D) this guy is just plain twisted in the head
E) all of the above

This guy is messed up and has no business being a religious leader.

What is it with religious fundamentalism and terror of sexuality? Is it a convenient point of control, or are they just terrified of the opposite gender?

For some reason, religion often associates celibacy with "higher" morality. This truly is sad because sexuality is one of the most wonderful things we humans can experience.

The Abrahamic religions are largely responsible for the vilification of sexuality, and women especially have been suffering from the resultant effects for centuries.

I think the fact that women can get pregnant and give birth that really terrifies the heck out of some guys. Particularly the religious fundamentalists.

We don't get pregnant every time we have sex, like most other animals do. And when we do, it is the one aspect of our lives men have zero control over.

Because they have no control the only way to ensure without doubt that they were the one to "father" the child, control the woman's access to sex.

Since I'm a font of useless trivia, I'd suggest getting rid of the Islamic Star and Moon as a religious symbol because of their historical connotations on outhouses.

You see, when outhouses were invented, there were two symbols used upon the doors to the primitive commodes, the Star (Sol) for men and the Crescent Moon (Luna) for women.

I am not making this up. http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/576/why-do-outhouse-doors-have-half-moons-on-them

Having done in depth personal research on why the universal symbol of the commode is, today, the crescent moon, I have reached the following finding: MEN ARE PIGS. No, literally, that's why. The men's outhouse, the one with the blazing star (Sol) on the door, fell into disfavor as the dirtiest, nastiest outhouse available. The outhouse with the crescent moon (Luna) on the door was the kinder, gentler outhouse. Basically, women have better aim and don't miss so much.

As outhouses were, by nature, single-occupant structures, the nicer (Luna, Women's) facilities (crude though they were) became preferred by travellers, even male travellers. So, the preference became the crescent moon, and the masculine starburst (Sol) symbol fell into disfavor over the years.

If you want to know why practically all outhouses have holes in them shaped like the crescent moon... well there you have it. Font of useless trivia, right?

So, what does that have to do with the bonehead European cleric declaring cucumbers and such shapes illicit for sexual meaning? Same thing. The historical symbol for Islam is the exact same as the symbols used in the past for designating male and female, Sol and Luna. It's a classic and historical (pre-historical, actually) representation of the sexes.

Therein lies the irony (hilarity, actually) found in an Islamic cleric saying "no sex here, not in Islam, no way, no how!"

That's your cited source? An unnamed cleric? Do we even know that he is in fact a cleric? Do we even know if he is an Imam at a reputable place of worship? Do we even know, in fact, if is he is not at all the figment of a propagandist's imagination? What is it here that you are defending Buzz? Fiction masquerading as news? You have a responsibility to point out fact from fiction on this site. I should report this seed as miscategorized, but I won't, because it is a fine example of @!$%# being passed for news.
