An all-white church in America's rural South has voted to ban interracial couples from joining.Members of the Gulnare Free Will Baptist Church in Kentucky voted for the resolution after their Sunday service, which says the church 'does not condone interracial marriage'.The church member who crafted the resolution, Melvin Thompson, claims he is not racist and called the matter an 'internal affair'.

This story is crazy. It's amazing any organization - church or otherwise - could condone this type of racist garbage.

This does not surprise me, in the least. I live here in KY, albeit far from Pike County. However, I am very familiar with Pike County, having worked there.
That the man is African American isn't all the problem-- to be honest, the problem stems from the fact that he is from South Africa. He is a foreigner. And Pike County people don't like anyone that wasn't born and raised in Pike County. They may tolerate, even be nice, and welcome someone from, say, Letcher County, or an adjacent county, but someone from The Big City, or even another city, (more than 5000 people), are not welcome there.
I find this to be disgusting and am sick of it. But that is the way that people are and there isn't anything to do about it.
My advice to the interracial couple: Move.
