No one wants to talk about "Arab Spring" antisemitism

And everyone wants to pretend the imposition of Sharia that is following each revolution won't be a problem, and could even be an improvement. After all, there's promise after promise of "moderate" Islamic governance. One consistent trait that betrays the outwardly friendly face of the revolutions is the antisemitic rhetoric that has accompanied them. "Praise Arab Spring, Except for Anti-Semitism," by Jeffrey Goldberg for Bloomberg, November 29:
The bravery of the youth of Tunisia, Egypt, Syria and Libya can’t be denied. It isn’t pepper spray that they’ve been facing. Nor can the idealism of the Arab Spring be denied. The people of the Middle East are finally awakening to the promise of liberty.

There is another truth, however, that shouldn’t be denied. The desire of Arabs to be free of their spiteful and pitiless dictators is sometimes expressed in grotesquely anti-Jewish terms.

We can see it in their eyes, it is staring us in the face. Religion is allied to racism, used to terrify and/or coerce, to bribe or blackmail, depending on the need.

Human decency is not derived from religion, it precedes it.

Yesterday rockets were fired into Israel. I remember a few months ago when a shark attacked someone in Egyptian waters, how they tried to blame Israel by saying that they had somehow dropped sharks into the ocean so that they'd attack Egyptians.

I agree that there is a fair level of anti-semitism in the ME. I think it's everywhere.

It's particularly bad in the Middle-East partly because it's been fostered by the authoritarian regimes in power to create an us vs. them mentality that allows them to stay in power. While the condition of the lower classes remains poor, those old prejudices will be strong. When the societies become more open, time passes, education increases, and the standard of living goes up, prejudice naturally goes down. Right now the revolutions themselves are a symptom of crappy quality of life and unrest, and when you can no longer blame the dictator when things aren't immediately sunshine and roses a subset of the population will look for a new scapegoat.

Look at us in the U.S. right now. Bad economy and immediately our anti-immigrant prejudices resurface, along with lots of other prejudices. Politically the partisanship increases. When life is good people stop looking to lash out based on prejudices.

Bob Nelson.

This appears to me to be a tipping-point for Islam. It can go either way, humane of inhumane. If Islam chooses hate and violence... it will be for a long, long time, with no way back. :-((((

I read, and I believe it true, that 70% of Muslims who would love to leave Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Somalia, Iran, and Yemen if they were unlucky enough to be born there. It is also little surprise, almost all US Muslims, born here or not, love it here. Thanks everyone for your support.
