Jordan: Muslim cuts sister's throat to cleanse family honor
It is no accident or coincidence that Muslims commit 91 percent of honor killings worldwide. A manual of Islamic law certified as a reliable guide to Sunni orthodoxy by Al-Azhar University, the most respected authority in Sunni Islam, says that "retaliation is obligatory against anyone who kills a human being purely intentionally and without right." However, "not subject to retaliation" is "a father or mother (or their fathers or mothers) for killing their offspring, or offspring's offspring." ('Umdat al-Salik o1.1-2). In other words, someone who kills his child incurs no legal penalty under Islamic law.
Syria in 2009 scrapped a law limiting the length of sentences for honor killings, but "the new law says a man can still benefit from extenuating circumstances in crimes of passion or honour 'provided he serves a prison term of no less than two years in the case of killing.'" And in 2003 the Jordanian Parliament voted down on Islamic grounds a provision designed to stiffen penalties for honor killings. Al-Jazeera reported that "Islamists and conservatives said the laws violated religious traditions and would destroy families and values."

I'm not running for office, a populist, or a hypocrite. Religion has not one redeeming value.

I reject its morality claims, I reject its hatred of women, I reject its violence, I reject its absolutism. I reject its racism. I reject its gods.

This is Westboro Baptist to the tenth power, put into practice. Of which, I will not tolerate. I will stand with the victim every single time, and so should you.

How anyone could stand on the side of religion is beyond me. The very nature of religion requires its followers to be a rung short on the evolutionary ladder. Honestly, can anyone be surprised to hear of these things coming from a muslim? Mindless followers of an evil philosophy and a non-existent god.

Somehow a change needs to be made to this whole notion of the "honor killing". I would like to see it replaced with an "honor suicide". If you are so disappointed in what should be a loved one that you feel the only way you can go on is to kill them, why not just off yourself instead?

Maybe as a way to get honor suicides to catch on and replace honor killings we could say you get 144 virgins in your afterlife...

I can't understand how those women accept that lifestyle. Seems like they could all learn how to cook with undetected poisons for awhile, or something like that...

OK, that was really an evil thing to say..

Religion taken to the extreme.

Religion as misogynist, sociopathic behavior.

Islam thrives because of ignorance, not in spite of it.

It's all they know. Sounds simplistic, but if you're raised to think a certain way and you don't know any differently, you end up like this. It's a crime against humanity that happens on a daily basis.

Yep, if you don't even know there's other possibilities in the first place how can a person begin to seek change? I am reminded of the words of Frederick Douglas, "knowledge is the pathway from slavery to freedom".

You think the women there accept that lifestyle? They are forced into it! Brainwashing aside, how are they supposed to overcome a culture that openly applauds their subjugation? Does anyone really think it's that simple for the women in those countries to rise up against their oppressors? That somehow that life being all they know means that they accept it or willingly live within it? Many of them do know how bad they have it. Unfortunately, their subjugated life is all they are allowed to have...there's a difference.
