A Christian university is asking its 200 employees to sign a 'Personal Lifestyle Statement' stating they are not gay.Anyone at Shorter University in Rome, Georgia, who does not sign the statement faces being fired.Don Dowless, president of the university, said the statement also requires staffers to reject premarital sex and adultery.
He said: 'I think that anybody who adheres to a lifestyle that is outside of what the biblical mandate is and of what the board has passed, including the president, would not be allowed to continue here.
'Anything outside that is not biblical, we do not accept.
'We have a right to hire only Christians.'

I'm very suspicious of the dubious beliefs Christians have against homosexuality.
Because Moses had many wives, sexual slaves, and concubine.
The Prophet Muhammad had many young wives, sexual slaves and concubine.
Then we have the water-walker Jesus...well I rest my case.
This is perhaps why we see so many Christian preachers are often caught in meth labs with their pants down with male prostitutes. Ted Haggard, Jimmy Swaggart, Jim Baker and so on and so on..

???????????????
Moses was a MAN. His wives, "sexual slaves", and concubines were FEMALE.
Muhammed, idolized by men, was never recognized as being a Christian.
He was an Islamist. Two totally different religions.
I don't understand your "I rest my case" bit. What do you mean?
Jesus was a sinless man who lived a single life into his thirties before He was crucified.
How do you compare any of this to homosexuality??

How do you know? Where u there? I don't care if Jesus, Moses or any Holy Man is gay. I don't care if anyone is gay or not, but apparently you do. So perhaps you should explain yourself. No one forced you to comment here.
All the rest of the so called "Holy Men" were married, Jesus was not and never said a kind thing about any woman. Perhaps you will enlighten me with a gospel quote if I'm wrong? I'm sorry, but religious preachers are not the poster child of masculinity.

King Dave do you just make up Bible facts as you go along to suit your argument? You don't seem to care if your statements have any basis in truth at all so long as they deprecate where the Bible is concerned. Your hatred of GOD, the Bible, Christianity must go very deep. But apparently not as deep as your fatuosness which you seem to be very proud of.
I would have to ask "What is God's plan for hermaphrodite?" If the Bible has no answer, then it follows that this is one of those mysteries that as yet has no answer and is beyond the Chuch's purview. My final answer would have to be "I will pray upon it and let you know what GOD reveals to me." Until then, my sexuality or lack of it is a matter for scientists, and for them the subject of homosexuality is the same! Of course i would be summarily dismissed, but my soul would be clean and I would be content that it was no longer GOD's will that I follow this path.
Charles, i really like the way you think...and that you DO think !!!

I bet they take public money. Which would mean I hope they get sued. If they don't then they can make their own archaic rules

'We have a right to hire only Christians.'
Considering the SCOTUS is debating the ministerial exception right now this is rather open to debate. If the position is for a philosophy professor, or a Latin professor, or any position which is not primarily ministerial in nature there's a very good chance they will not have the right to discriminate in their hiring practices in the near future.
My guess would be that this fourth rate college will draw the lowest tier of academia for their teaching positions. Most individual academics will not tolerate that type of intrusion into their lives.

Not here to defend the action of this University but wonder if the "Statement" is similar to a morals clause in many contracts? One would assume a Christian University's curriculum, although vast in academia, would also utilize the Bible as it's authority in teaching and behavior models.
That said, if receiving ANY taxpayer subsidies that's a game changer for me. If financially independent, the University should have the right to put this in place.
Most disconcerting is where or how do Christian Universities draw the line morally. What about divorce, gambling, drunkenness, etc.
I wonder how they would react to "I am not a homosexual, but if Jesus wants me to be, it's cool!
How about, "I am not a homosexual. I am also not a fairy. I am not a pixie. I am not a troll or a giant or a coloratura soprano. I am definitely not Madonna, or Rudy Giulliani. I used to be cool but now I drool - (according to my cousin who is just reaching puberty!) I am not the man of your dreams - no matter who you are! I am not curious yellow! I am getting older, I am not getting better! Oh, and I am getting a new religion because yours is SOOO Gay!
Do you think it may be too confrontational?
